RESUMO Este trabalho teve por objetivo estimar a biomassa em um povoamento de Platanus x acerifolia, com 5,5 anos de idade, localizado no município de Dom Feliciano, Rio Grande do Sul. O inventário na área experimental consistiu no levantamento de cinco parcelas de 20m x 30m. As árvores foram agrupadas em oito classes de diâmetro, sendo abatidas três árvores por classe. Após o abate, foi realizada uma cubagem rigorosa, e a biomassa de cada componente das árvores (folha, fruto, galho, casca, madeira e raiz) foi determinada e amostrada. As estimativas da biomassa de cada um dos componentes foram realizadas por meio do ajuste de equações de regressão que correlacionaram características dendrométricas com os valores de biomassa dos respectivos componentes das árvores amostradas. A biomassa total foi de 45,28 Mg ha-1, distribuída em ordem decrescente em: madeira 21,07 Mg ha-1; galho 11,72 Mg ha-1; raiz 8,43 Mg ha-1; casca 2,01 Mg ha-1; folha 1,89 Mg ha-1 e fruto 0,16 Mg ha-1. A serapilheira acumulada foi de 12,80 Mg ha-1.

ABSTRACT This study aimed at estimating the biomass in a 5.5-year-Platanus x acerifolia stand, in Dom Feliciano county, Rio Grande do Sul. The inventory in the experimental area was done in five plots (20 m x 30 m each one). Trees were grouped in eight diameter classes, and 3 trees per class were cut. After cutting the trees, a cubing was done and the biomass of each component (leaf, fruit, branch, bark, wood and root) was determined and sampled. The biomasses estimative from each component were done through regression equations adjustment that correlated dendrometric characteristics with biomass volumes from the respective components of the trees. The total biomass was 45,28 Mg h-1, distributed in: wood 21,07 Mg ha-1; branch 11,72 Mg ha-1; root 8,43 Mg ha-1; bark 2,01 Mg ha-1; leaf 1,89 Mg ha-1 and fruit 0,16 Mg ha-1. The accumulated litter was 12,80 Mg ha-1.

RESUMO Estudou-se a influência da intensidade de desrama sobre a produção de Pinus elliottii Engelm., no município de Piratini, RS, em um experimento em blocos ao acaso com quatro repetições e quatro tratamentos, definidos por: T1 - testemunha, sem desrama; T2 - desrama de 40% da altura total; T3 - desrama de 60% da altura total; T4 - desrama de 80% da altura total das árvores. Observou-se que o diâmetro e a produção de madeira foram fortemente influenciados pela intensidade da desrama, aos 13 anos de idade. Os resultados permitem concluir pela recomendação da utilização de desrama com intensidade inferior a 40% da altura total das árvores, os quais permitem menos perdas em incremento diamétrico e produção e aumentam a qualidade da madeira assim obtida.

ABSTRACT The effect of the pruning intensity on the production of Pinus elliottii Engelm. in Piratini, RS, was studied in a randomized block design with four treatments and four replications. The treatments were: T1 control, without pruning; T2 - pruning of 40% of the total height; T3 - pruning of 60% of the total height; T4 - pruning of 80% of the total height. It was observed that the diameter and wood volume were affected by the pruning intensity of the 13 year old stand. It is concluded that pruning intensities below 40% of the total height should be employed because of the lower production loss, and increment in diameter and quality of the wood.

RESUMO Neste trabalho, foram investigadas a massa específica básica e a massa seca de madeira e de casca de Eucalyptus grandis W Hill ex-Maiden em função de 12 espaçamentos de plantio. A madeira foi retirada de árvores procedentes de unidades experimentais da AFUBRA com idade aproximada de 10 anos. Foram utilizadas 36 árvores (três por parcela) nos ensaios. Discos na base, DAP, 25, 50, 75 e 100% da altura comercial foram retirados de cada árvore para determinação da massa específica básica da madeira e da casca. Exceto para os menores espaçamentos, houve uma redução da massa específica básica e da massa seca de madeira e de casca com o aumento do espaço vital. Os espaçamentos entre linhas de plantio que produziram os maiores valores das variáveis estudadas situaram-se entre 1,5 e 2 m.

ABSTRACT The basic density and dry mass of wood and bark of Eucalyptus grandis W Hill ex-Maiden of growing under twelve trees spacing were investigated. Thirty-six trees (three per unit), with age of approximately ten years, coming from experimental units of AFUBRA, were used. Disks at base, DBH, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of trunk commercial height were taken from each tree for determination of wood and bark basic densities. Except for the smaller tree spacing, there was a decrease in basic density and dry mass of wood and bark with increasing planting spacing. The between lines tree spacing that produced the larger values of the studied variables were from 1,5 to 2 m.

RESUMO Com este trabalho estudou-se o comportamento do Populus deltoides referente ao seu desenvolvimento, quando submetido a diferentes doses de calcário. A pesquisa foi realizada no Centro Tecnológico de Silvicultura, na Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, município de Santa Maria, RS. O experimento constituiu-se de 48 unidades experimentais ordenadas em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, tendo seis tratamentos com oito repetições. Cada unidade experimental era constituída por um vaso de três litros contendo uma única estaca de Populus deltoides. Os tratamentos constituíram-se em cinco doses diferentes de calagem (T2: 7 toneladas de calcário/ha; T3: 14 toneladas de calcário/ha; T4: 21 toneladas de calcário/ha; T5: 29 toneladas de calcário/ha; T6: 38 toneladas de calcário/ha) mais a testemunha, determinados com base na análise do solo utilizado no experimento. As mudas foram avaliadas, após 120 dias da data de plantio, quanto ao seu crescimento em altura, diâmetro do colo e peso seco da parte aérea. As melhores médias foram alcançadas pelos tratamentos sem calagem e com sete toneladas de calcário por ha em todos os parâmetros observados. Os demais tratamentos apresentaram médias inferiores, eles não possuem diferença significativa ao nível de 5% entre si, para todos os parâmetros observados.

ABSTRACT This work intended to study the behavior of Populus deltoides regarding its development when submitted to different doses of lime. The research was carried out in the Silviculture Tecnology Center, at Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, Santa Maria - RS. The experiment was constituted by forty eight (48) experimental units completely randomized, with six (06) treatments and eight repetitions (08). Each experimental unit was constituted by a vase of three liters containing only one shoot cutting of Populus deltoides. The treatments were constituted by five different doses (T2: 7 tons of lime/ha; T3: 14 tons of lime/ha; T4: 21 tons of lime/ha; T5: 29 tons of lime/ha; T6: 38 tons of lime/ha) plus the testimony, determined with base in the soil analysis used in the experiment. The plants were evaluated, after 120 days of the plantation date, considering its growth in height, its diameter of the neck and its weigh dry of the aerial part. The best average were reached by the treatments without lime and with seven tons of lime for ha in all the parameters observed. The other treatments presented inferior averages, which do not possess significant difference to each other at the level of 5%, for all the observed parameters.

RESUMO Foi realizado estudo da vegetação em fragmento de floresta estacional decidual em processo de sucessão, em área da Associação Tabor (29o43’S; 53o47’W), no município de Santa Maria (RS), Brasil. Utilizaram-se dezesseis unidades amostrais de 10 x 20 m distribuídas de forma sistemática para avaliação (medição e identificação) dos indivíduos com Circunferência à Altura do Peito (CAP) igual ou maior de 30 cm e subunidades circulares com raios de 1,78 m para identificação e contagem da regeneração (indivíduos menores de 30 cm). Observou-se a ocorrência de 64 espécies arbóreas e arbustivas de 54 gêneros e 31 famílias. As espécies com maior valor de importância foram Myrocarpus frondosus, Cupania vernalis, Ocotea puberula, Patagonula americana, Casearia sylvestris, Luehea divaricata, Enterolobium contortisiliquum e Helietta apiculata. Na regeneração, as espécies com maior densidade de indivíduos foram Trichilia elegans, Nectandra megapotamica, Actinostemon concolor, Piper gaudichaudianum, Cupania vernalis, Hybanthus bigibbosus, Aiouea saligna e Parapiptadenia rigida. Constatou-se o contínuo processo de sucessão por meio da substituição de espécies nos estratos da floresta e algumas bem-representadas desde a regeneração até o estrato superior.

ABSTRACT This work aimed at studying the vegetation in a fragment of Deciduous Seasonal Forest under successional process, in an area of the Tabor Association (29043’ S; 53047’ W), municipal district of Santa Maria, RS, Brazil. Sixteen sample units (10x20m) were systematically located in the area to allow the recording (measurement and indentification) of individual plants with a Circumference at Breast Height equal to or larger than 30cm. Sampling was also carried out in circular units with radii of 1,78m to count up and identify the regeneration (individual with CBH smaller than 30 cm). The occurrence of 64 species of trees and shrubs comprising 54 genera and 31 botanical families was observed. The most important species were Myrocarpus frondosus, Cupania vernalis, Ocotea puberula, Patagonula americana, Casearia sylvestris, Luehea divaricata, Enterolobium contortisiliquum and Helietta apiculata. In the regeneration the species with higher density of individuals were Trichilia elegans, Nectandra megapotamica, Actinostemon concolor, Piper gaudichaudianum, Cupania vernalis, Hybanthus bigibbosus, Aiouea saligna and Parapiptadenia rigida. It was demonstrated the evidence of a continuous successional process, through the replacement of species in the several strata of the forest, with some well represented from the regeneration up to the higher forest stratum.

RESUMO A Cryptomeria japonica (L.F.) D. Don. é uma espécie de grande potencial para plantios nas regiões altas e frias do Brasil. Destaca-se pelo seu rápido crescimento, boa adaptação ao clima e solo do sul do País, e boa resposta às tecnologias silviculturais, associada à qualidade e diversidade de utilização de sua matéria-prima para fábricas de celulose e papel, chapas, construções de casas, móveis, barcos e navios, entre outras. Neste trabalho, buscou-se avaliar o desenvolvimento das mudas produzidas em diferentes tipos de tubetes e de substratos. Usou-se um experimento bifatorial no delineamento inteiramente casualizado com oito tratamentos em cinco repetições com quarenta mudas por tratamento. Os resultados indicaram que, para a produção de mudas desta espécie, o substrato de solo + vermiculita foi o que apresentou melhor crescimento das plantas, em recipiente de 120 cm3.

ABSTRACT Cryptomeria japonica (L. F.) D. Don. is a species of great potential for planting in elevated and cold regions of Brazil. It is remarkable for its fast growth, good adaptation to the climate and soil of Southern Brazil, and it also shows a good response to silvicultural technologies. In addition, it is notable for the quality and diversity of its raw material usage for the industries of pulp and paper, plywood, construction of houses, furniture, boats, ships, etc. The experimental plan was bifactorial in the entirely randomized design with 8 treatments, 5 repetitions with 40 seedlings per treatment. The results indicated that for the production of seedlings of this species, the substrate soil + vermiculite showed the best development of the seedlings in 120 cm3 containers.

RESUMO O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o crescimento de mudas de Eucalyptus globulus subsp. maidenii em resposta a diferentes doses de NPK, originadas da combinação de fertilizantes de liberação rápida e lenta. O estudo foi realizado em casa de vegetação climatizada, localizada no Centro Tecnológico de Silvicultura, pertencente ao Departamento de Ciências Floretais da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria-RS, no perído de setembro a dezembro de 1997. As plantas foram cultivadas em substrato à base de uma composto orgânico de casca de Pinus spp.. O delineamento utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, constando de 4 tratamentos, constituídos de doses de fósforo (superfostato simples (0-18-0)) e de um fertilizante de liberação lenta N-P-K (1414-14) denominado Osmocote, sendo derivado de nitrato de amônio, fosfato de amônio, fosfato de cálcio e sulfato de potássio. Os tratamentos, resultantes da combinação de 60% de superfostato simples e 40% de osmocote foram 0,0; 2,5; 5,0 e 7,5 Kg m-3 de substrato. Para cada tratamento foram usadas 4 repetições, sendo cada uma composta de 11 plantas. Ao final de 100 dias, foram avaliados a altura, o diâmetro do colo, a massa seca da parte aérea, a massa seca do sistema radicular e o número de folhas. Pelos resultados obtidos verificou-se que o crescimento das plantas de Eucalyptus globulus subsp. maidenii, respondeu positivamente à fertilização NPK [60% Super Simples (0-18-0) + 40% fertilizante de liberação lenta (14-14-14)]. Quando não foi aplicado fertilizante as mudas apresentaram um menor crescimento enquanto que os máximos crescimentos em altura, diâmetro do colo, massa seca da parte aérea, massa seca radicular e número de folhas foram obtidos no intervalo de doses de 6,7 a 7,5 Kg m-3 de substrato.

ABSTRACT The present study has had as its objectives to evaluate the seedlings of Eucalyptus globulus subspecies maidenii, in response to different NPK originated from the combination of slow release and quick release fertilizers. The study was conducted in a climatized green house at a the Technological Center of Forestry, in the Forest Department of the Federal University of Santa Maria-RS, from September to December of 1997. The plants were cultivated in a compost of pine bark substrate, in a completely randomized design, consisting of 4 treatments which consisted of Phosphorus dosages (60% of Super Simple (0-18-0)) and a slow release NPK fertilizer (14-14-14), known as Osmocote, which derived from ammonium nitrate, ammonium phosphate, calcium phosphate and potassium sulfate. The treatments, resulting from the combination of 60% super simple and 40% osmocote were 0,0; 2,5; 5,0 and 7,5 Kg m-3 of substrate. There were 4 repetitions of 11 plants for each treatment. After 100 days the height, collar diameter, above-ground dry matter, root dry matter and number of leaves were evaluated. The results indicate that the E. globulus subsp. maidenii seedlings growth responded positively to NPK fertilization [60% of Super Simple (0-180)+40% of slow release fertilizer (14-14-14)]; when the fertilizer was not applied the seedlings did not grow as much while the maximum increment in height, collar diameter, above-ground dry matter, root dry matter and number of leaves were obtained in the dosage range of 6,7 Kg m-3 to 7,5 Kg m-3 of substrate.

RESUMO O objetivo do presente trabalho foi determinar o diâmetro ideal de estacas para a produção de mudas de Platanus x acerifolia. As estacas utilizadas foram coletadas em árvores cuja a brotação apresentava-se com um ano de idade. Foram comparados três diâmetros de estacas: diâmetros inferiores a 1 cm, diâmetros entre 1 e 2 cm e diâmetros superiores a 2 cm. Todas as estacas possuíam 30 cm de comprimento. Decorridos 90 dias do plantio das estacas, foram medidas as alturas dos brotos, onde na qual o maior desenvolvimento foi observado nas estacas com diâmetro entre 1 e 2 centímetros.

ABSTRACT It aimed at determining the ideal diameter of stakes for the production of Platanus x acerifolia shoot. The used stakes were taken from trees whose shoots were one year old. Three diameters were compared: diameters under 1 cm, diameters which ranged from 1 to 2 cm and diameters over 2 cm. All stakes were 30 cm of length. After 90 days of stakes planting, the shoots heights were measured and the most developed shoots were the ones with diameters which ranged from 1 to 2 cm.

RESUMO O presente trabalho objetivou estabelecer um protocolo básico para a micropropagação da caixeta Didymopanax morototoni (Aubl.) Dcne. et Planch. Segmentos nodais foram desinfestados em hipoclorito de sódio 10 % por diferentes periodos de exposição, e inoculados em dois meios básicos: WPM (Lloyd & McCown, 1981) e MS (Murashige & Skoog, 1962) suplementados com BAP, TDZ, ANA, GA3 , AIB e carvão ativado em diferentes combinações e concentrações para cada estádio de desenvolvimento. A desinfestação dos segmentos nodais com hipoclorito de sódio por 10 minutos proporcionou os melhores resultados para o estabelecimento asséptico das culturas. A maior taxa de regeneração e alongamento de brotações foi obtida com o meio WPM contendo 1,0 mg.l-1 de BAP. Contudo após três subcultivos neste mesmo meio observou-se redução na taxa de multiplicação. O enraizamento das brotações foi obtido no meio WPM suplementado com 1,0 mg.l-1 de AIB. O processo de aclimatização possibilitou a sobrevivência das plântulas micropropagadas às condições ex vitro.

ABSTRACT This study was carried out aiming to study the in vitro regeneration of caixeta (Didymopanax morototoni (Aubl.) Dcne. et Planch.). In order to establish a basic micropropagation protocol axillary buds and nodal segments were desinfested with sodium hipochlorite 10 % and innoculated in two basal media: WPM (Lloyd & McCown, 1981) and MS (Murashige & Skoog, 1962) supplemented with BAP, TDZ, NAA, GA3, IBA and activated charcoal in defferent combinations and concentrations for each developmental step. The desinfestation method based on sodium hipochlorite during 10 minutes allowed the best results for the establishment of aseptic cultures in nodal segments. With these explants the regeneration rate and the shoot elongation were higher in the WPM medium containing 1,0 mg.l-1 BAP. However after three subcultures it was observed a reduction in the regeneration rate. The rooting of regenerated shoots was observed in a WPM medium supplemented with 1,0 mg.l-1 IBA. The acclimatization process allowed the plantlet survival in ex vitro conditions.

RESUMO No presente trabalho estudou-se a influência da intensidade de desrama sobre a produção de madeira de Pinus elliottii Engelm. em um experimento em blocos casualizados com três repetições e 5 tratamentos, definidos por: T1 - testemunha, sem desrama; T2 - desrama dos ramos seco; T3 - desrama de 40 % da altura total; T4 - desrama de 50 % da altura total; e T5 - desrama de 60 % da altura total das árvores. Observou-se que o diâmetro e a produção de madeira foram fortemente influenciados pela intensidade da desrama, aos 11 anos de idade. A testemunha com 263,5 m3/ha não diferiu do tratamento com desrama de ramos secos com 245,1 m3/ha, mas ambos diferiram dos tratamentos com desrama de 40 % da altura total com 231,5 m3/ha, da desrama de 50 % da altura total com 225,5 m3/ha, da desrama com 60 % da altura total com 211,6 m3/ha. A menor perda de produção foi de 12,1 % obtida no tratamento com desrama de 40 % da altura total, e a maior de 19,7 % ocorreu no tratamento de desrama com 60 % da altura total. Estes resultados permitem concluir pela recomendação da utilização de desrama com intensidade inferior a 40 % da altura total das árvores, pois permitem menores perdas de produção, ganhos em incremento diamétrico e na qualidade da madeira.

ABSTRACT The effect of the pruning intensity on the production of Pinus elliottii Engelm. was studied in a randomized block design trial with 5 treatments and 3 repetitions. The treatments were: T1 - control, without pruning; T2 - pruning of the dead branches; T3 - pruning of 40% of the total height; T4 - pruning of 50% of the total height; and T5 - pruning of 60% of the total height. The diameter and wood volume were affected by the pruning intensity of the 11-year old stand. The control (263.5 m3/ha) and pruning of the dead branches (245.1 m3/ha) were different from all other treatments (pruning of 40% - 231.5 m3/ha; pruning of 50% - 225.5 m3/ha; and pruning of 60% - 211.6 m3/ha). The smallest production loss was 12% on the 40% pruning, and the greatest loss was 20% on the 60% pruning treatment. It is concluded that pruning intensities below 40% of the total height should be employed because of the lower production losses, and increases in diameter and quality of the wood.

RESUMO O efeito de diferentes intensidades de desbaste sobre a produção Eucalyptus grandis Hill ex Maiden implantado no ano de 1981, em espaçamento inicial de 3,0 x 2,0 metros, na região de Cachoeira do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, foi estudado com delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com duas repetições e quatro tratamentos: testemunha, sem desbastes, manutenção de 40%, 50% e 60% da área basal da testemunha, constando-se diferença significativa entre os tratamentos, ao nível de 5% de probabilidade. A produção máxima (756,3 m3cc/ha) foi obtida na testemunha, sem desbaste, que não diferiu estatísticamente de 639,6 m3cc/ha, obtido no tratamento com manutenção de 60% da área basal da testemunha, porém diferiu dos tratamentos com manutenção de 50% e 40% da área basal da testemunha. A redução da área basal incrementou a concentração das freqüências nas maiores classes de diâmetro, deslocando a distribuição para a direita, porém com perdas expressivas de produção total e acréscimo significativo no diâmetro. A manutenção de 60% da área basal da testemunha permitiu as menores perdas de produção, cerca de 15,4%, e um ganho de 6,4cm ou 23,9% em incremento diamétrico das árvores remanescentes quando comparado com a testemunha, sem desbaste.

ABSTRACT The effect of different thinning intensities on the production of Eucalyptus grandis HILL ex Maiden, planted in 1981, with a spacing of 3.0 x 2.0 m, in Cachoeira do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, was studied in a randomized block design, in four treatments with two repetitions: control treatment, without thinning, and maintenance of 40%, 50% and 60% of the basal area proportionally to the control. Significant differences among the treatments were detected with 5% probability. Maximum yield (756.2 m3cc/ha) was obtained on the control, which was not statistically different from the treatment with 60% of the basal area (639.6 m3cc/ha) only. The reduction in the basal area increased the concentration of the frequencies of the larger diameter classes, skewing the distribution to the right; however, there was an expressive loss of total yield and a significant increase in diameter. The maintenance of 60% of the basal area allowed the least loss of production, at about 15.4%, and an increase of 6.4 cm or 23.9% in diameter of the remaining trees when compared with the control.

RESUMO O presente trabalho teve como objetivo determinar o tamanho da amostra para experimentos de eucaliptos em viveiro. O Experimento foi instalado no Horto Florestal Barba Negra, em área de produção da Riocell S.A., localizada no município de Barra do Ribeiro - RS. Foram utilizados um total de 8 bandejas com 96 mudas por bandeja. As variáveis mensuradas foram: altura total da planta e diâmetro do colo medido com paquímetro graduado em milímetro. Os resultados mostram que o delineamento experimental deve ser o bloco ao acaso usando a bandeja como bloco e que o tamanho da amostra ideal é de 26 mudas por tratamento para uma diferença mínima significativa (d) de 10% e de 9 mudas por tratamento quando a diferença é de d=20% para a variável diâmetro das plantas. Para a variável altura o tamanho ideal é de 23 mudas para d=10% e de 8 mudas para d=20%. Para ambas as variáveis é impossível delinear um experimento para d=5%.

ABSTRACT The present paper work aimed at determinig the sample size for xperiments of Euca1iptus saligna SMITH in the tree nursery. The experiment was establisbed at Barba Negra Forest Reserve located in the production area of Riocell S.A. in Barra do Ribeiro - RS. To determine the sample size, a total of eight blocks with ninety six seedlings each block were used. The measured variables were: the plant total height and the diameter of the connecting point of root and stem easured by a millimeter graduated pachymeter. It was observed that the results obtained in the pe nursery show that the experimental design must be the block at random, using the tray as a block. The size of the ideal sample to variable diameter is the one with 26 seedlings for each tratment with significant minimum difference of 10% and nine seedlings for each treatment when e difference goes to 20%. To the height variable the size of the ideal sample is 23 seedlings with d = 10% and eight seedlings when the difference goes to 20%. It is impossible to delineate an experiment when the difference goes to 5% to both variables.

RESUMO O presente trabalho foi desenvolvido no “Projeto Ipiranga VII”, localizado na Fazenda Boa Vista no município de Encruzilhada do Sul, RS, pertencente a Empresa Ipiranga Florestal Ltda. O projeto foi implantado em 1987, tendo uma área total e efetivo plantio com Pinus elliotii de 311,59 ha e 200 ha, respectivamente. Este trabalho teve como objetivo determinar as características distintas da área em estudo (sítios) em função dos fatores edáficos, dendrométricos e da vegetação. O sítio I apresentou uma coloração bruno avermelhado escuro (5YR – úmido) na profundidade de 0-10 cm. Este sítio possui solos rasos, apresentando uma profundidade inferior a 20 cm, a superfície do solo apresenta muitas pedras e pedriscos, textura arenosa a franco argilosa e estrutura granular grumosa. O sítio II possui uma coloração bem escura, diferenciando nitidamente do sítio I, pois na profundidade de 20-40 cm apresentou uma coloração bruno avermelhado escuro (5YR 2,5/2 úmido). Neste sítio o solo possui uma profundidade média a profunda, sendo que na maioria dos pontos de sondagem a profundidade do solo foi superior a 40 cm. A superfície do solo neste sítio apresentou poucas pedras e pedriscos, possuindo estrutura granular poliédrica a blocos subangulares e textura franco arenosa. Apesar do sítio I ter menor número de árvores por hectare, em torno de 120 árvores a menos que do sítio II, estas possuem um diâmetro basal médio menor que no sítio II, pois sabe-se que o diâmetro é diretamente influenciado pela densidade do povoamento, quanto mais denso for o povoamento, menor será o diâmetro do mesmo. A área basal média por hectare no sítio I foi de 32,40 m2/ha e 37,91 m2/ha para o sítio II, tendo uma diferença de 5,51 m2/ha. Visto que o Projeto Ipiranga VII possui dois sítios, percorreu-se toda a área com o objetivo de coletar amostras de solos em diferentes profundidades, que variam de 0 a 20 cm e de 20 a 40 cm, isto nos sítios I e II. A análise do solo revelou que o sítio II possui maior percentagem de matéria orgânica em ambas profundidades, podendo justificar a coloração mais escura do solo e mais disponibilidade de nitrogênio e outros nutrientes às plantas. Os dois sítios em ambas profundidades são muito ácidos, tendo uma necessidade média de calcário de 4,9 t/ha, pela tabela SMP, para atingir um pH de 5,5 o que seria ideal para Pinus e Eucalyptus. Essa acidez é refletida pelos teores de alumínio, ficando em torno de 1,0 meq/100 ml, com tendência de aumentar à medida que aumenta a profundidade de amostragem. A menor percentagem de argila foi encontrada nas profundidades 20-40 cm, tanto no sítio I como no sítio II, confirmando assim o tipo de solo da região (Padzólico vermelho-amarelo horizonte B textural).

SUMMARY The present work was developed in “Ipiranga VII”, located at the Boa Vista farm, in Encruzilhada do Sul, RS town. Project began in 1987, with a total area of 311.59 ha and an effective planting area of 200 ha. The objective of this work is to determine distinct characteristics of the studied area (sites) as a function of edaphic, dendrometric, and vegetative factors. Site I presents a dark reddish brown colour (humid, 5YR 3/4), according to Munsell"s chart, at a depth of 0-10 cm. This site has shallow soils, with a depth smaller than 20 cm, its soil surface presents lots of stones and little stones, with a sandy to clay loam texture and a grumous granular structure. Site II has a very dark collor, what makes it sharp different from site I; at the depth of 20-40 cm, it presents a dark reddish brown collor (humid, 5YR 2,5/2,0), according to Munsell"s chart. At this site, soil has a large to medium depth, being the most of the drilling points with a soil depth bigger than 40.0 cm. Soil surface at this site almost presented no stones and little stones and it has a poliedric granular to subangular blocks structure, and a sandy loam texture. Although site I has less trees per hectare, i.e., about 120 trees / ha less than site II, the trees have a media of basal tree diameter smaller than site II, according to the well known statement that diameter is influenced, directly, by the population density, what means the most dense the population, the smaller the diameter of it. Media basal area per hectare in site I was 32,40 m2/ha, and 37,91 m2/ha in site II, what makes a difference of 5.51 m2/ha between them. Once “Ipiranga VII” has two sites, the total area was covered with the objective to collect soil samples in different depths, i.e., site I at 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm depths, and site II at 0-20 and 20-40 cm depths. Soil analysis showed site II has a larger percentage of organic matter in both depths, what may justify the darker collor of the soil and a larger Nitrogen, as well as other nutrients, availability to plants. Both sites, at both depths, are very acid, with a lime media necessity of 4,9 t/ha, according to SMP table, in order to get a 5,5 pH, what is considered ideal to Pinus and Eucalyptus. Such acidity is reflected by Aluminium content, what is arround 1,0 meq / 100 ml of soil, with the trend to grow as sample depth grows. The largest clay percentage was found in the 20-40 cm depth in both sites I and II, ensuring the region soil type ( B textural horizon, Yellow-Red Podzolic ).

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência da camada de impedimento no solo, sobre a sobrevivência e o crescimento em diâmetro a altura do peito e altura de plantas de Eucalyptus grandis (Hill) ex. Maiden. Os tratamentos de preparo do solo foram solo subsolado (T1) e não subsolado (T2). Após 12, 24, 36 e 43 meses do plantio, os resultados indicaram haver uma diferença positiva, em todas as variáveis medidas, em prol das mudas plantadas em área subsolada, embora, estatisticamente, não tenha havido diferença significativa entre os tratamentos.

SUMMARY The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of soil impervious layer about surviving plus diameter and height growth rates of seedlings of Eucalyptus grandis (Hill) ex Maiden. The treatments of soil tillage are subsoiling (T1) and not subsoiling (T2). After 12, 24, 36 and 43 months from planting the results indicated a positive diference in all variables for seedlings planted in area with subsoiling, even so there wasn’t significative statistical diference between treatments planted seedling.

RESUMO Com o objetivo de estudar a maturidade fisiológica, coletaram-se sementes de Podocarpus lambertii Kl, em uma floresta nativa, localizada na Fazenda Vista Alegre, São Sepé, RS. A colheita foi semanal e efetuada a partir do momento em que as sementes se encontravam desenvolvidas e consistentes, persistindo esse procedimento até a queda total das mesmas. As sementes foram analisadas através de seu teor de umidade, peso de matéria seca e percentagem de germinação. Os resultados indicam que: a) a maturidade ocorre quando a percentagem de umidade de semente atinge o índice mais baixo (32%) e índice mais elevado de peso de matéria seca (17,68 g/100 sementes) e; b) a percentagem de umidade pode ser considerada como o melhor parâmetro para determinar a maturidade fisiológica das sementes de Podocarpus lambertii Kl.

ABSTRACT In order to study the physiological maturity, seeds of Podocarpus lambertii Kl. were collected from a native forest, at ‘Vista Alegre’ farm in São Sepé, RS state. Their physiological maturation was evaluated. For the study of the physiological maturation, seeds were weekly cropped from the moment that they became developed and consistent. This procedure was kept until their fall. The seeds were analyzed according to their moisture content, oven-dry weight and germination percentage. The results indicated that the physiological maturation of the seeds occurs when the humidity percentage reaches lower rates (32%) and the dry weight rates (17,68 g/100 seeds). Also, that the humidity percentage may be considered as the best parameter to determine the physiological maturation of Podocarpus lambertii Kl. seeds.
